I mentioned victim mindset in my recent post Learning Helps Us Be More Rational. It can also be the cause of a few of the behaviours we want to avoid if we are to be more positive friends and people in general – complaining, whining and being pessimistic.
I must start by making it clear that victim mindset is completely unrelated to actually being a victim of something or someone. Victim mindset refers to the state we can get into sometimes of irrationally feeling sorry for ourselves and like the cards are stacked against us when in actual fact they aren’t. I definitely used to tend towards this frame of mind, and I still fall into it sometimes, although I can usually catch myself now.
I first heard the term on the podcast The Nikki & Brie Show hosted, unsurprisingly, by Nikki & Brie Garcia aka The Bella Twins of WWE fame. I am not a fan of WWE, but I am a fan of WWE behind the scenes documentaries like Total Divas and Total Bellas.
If you want to learn more about victim mindset I highly recommend listening to the series the twins did on it with their life coach Cari Rose called Feel the Shift. Here are the links to the four episodes in the series:
If you do listen, please share your thoughts with me in the comments below! And tell me, do you too love the Bella twins, now known as the Garcia twins, even though you never watch WWE?
